Let me address this right off the bat. I have never played a Dark Souls game before, so I had no idea what I was getting into when a friend convinced me to download Elden Ring. What a world of pain I walked into as the game offers no tutorial nor guided storyline, it’s just a giant, beautifully designed open world for players to explore and mostly suffer in. I absolutely mean this when I say Eden Ring is the toughest game I’ve ever played. Never before have I had to die to a boss 34 times before I memorize their move sequences to defeat them.
It’s changed into a love-hate relationship, as I hate to admit how many hours I’ve put into this game, but despite how challenging and frustrating this game is, I really enjoy it. I’ve never quite played anything like this and feel like Elden Ring deserves to win 2022’s Game of the Year.
Anyone else feel like there’s other any contenders or better games getting released in the fall?
I think it’ll win. I don’t think there is any other contender. However, in the future, there may be a better game.
As much as I love Elden Ring, it is not without flaws. For example, there were unbalancing issues (which are now mostly patched) and the graphics of the game fails to comparatively stand out against games that were released even before 2022. Time will tell if it wins or not. Either way, Elden Ring is the best video game I’ve played.
I also believe that it will win the GOTY. Unless a game comes out that combines a great story, incredible gameplay, and flashy graphics, I don’t think Elden Ring will go without winning the GOTY.
The hype for the game has been very short lived due to the limited number of versions of the game. With PC players there is no problem, but where there is a problem is on PlayStation. The shortage of consoles is still present, and the prices of both PlayStation and PC components are very high. If you go for PC, to have a “good” gaming experience you will need to spend at least $400 on a graphics card. All this if you have an upgradeable PC. So this has brought the hype for the game down a lot.
Still, it’s a souls like game, and it’s very unlikely to fail to win the GOTY. Anyway, in the last few years, they haven’t surprised with the winners of the award so we’ll have to wait and see what happens.
One of its potential competitors (Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2) got delayed until next year. So I have to agree that Elden Ring is now the heavy favorite.
